Home 4 Tyre Resource Center4 How Tyre Conversion Can Effect Your Vehicle

Changing the size of a tyre… is not to be undertaken lightly. You must realize that not only is braking affected, but also engine performance, fuel consumption, transmission / gearing etc. When original equipment tyres are replaced it is necessary, for safety reasons, to adhere as closely as possible to the original diameter. The main difference is usually with the section width. A set of low profile tyres with reduced sidewalls, although it is may look better, generally results in a harder ride. Consider changing your rim width as well, to retain the optimum driving quality.

The most notable change in your vehicle's steering is a more rapid response and more precise behavior through bends. Your vehicle will adapt better to changes in surface, because of an increased area of rubber in contact with the ground. For those who are hooked on the thrill of driving, tyre conversions can increase steering response, but will tend towards a harsh ride, as more surface irregularities will be felt.
