Home 4 Tyre Resource Center4 Braking Distance

The braking distance of a car can be calculated on two major factors. They are
1. Brakes of a car
2. Tread depth left on the tyre

Brakes help in dynamic breaking that is when a car is moving bumper to bumper in the city. The tyres help in the city and in high speed driving which is explained in the graph given below:

Your safety, particularly in the wet, depends to a large extent on the state of the tread rubber. If no tread is left to give any grip, tyres cannot be in command of a tricky situation and the danger of aquapalnning increases.

When the tread has worn down to a depth of 1.6 mm, bars appear in the tread grooves, acting as tread wear indicators. but it is advisiable to replace a tyre before these indicators become visible. We as tyre professionals advice to replace tyres when the tread depth is 2mm. Any driver with low aspect tyres should replace them when the tread depth no longer exceeds 3mm.
