Home 4 Tyre Resource Center4 Aspect Ratio

In order to know about tyre sizes, it is necessary to understand the term aspect ratio. Aspect ratio is defined as the relationship of the tyre width to the tyre height. It is also called profile or, more commonly, series.

Thus a 75-series tyre is 75% as tall as its section width. The aspect ratio is derived as follows:

Section height is the dimension from the nominal diameter (bead) to the centre of the tread surface. Section width is the dimension measured from the side wall at the widest point. Currently most of the new cars in India are equipped with 60, 65,70,75,80 series tyres.

Both tyre construction and aspect ratio can have a pronounced influence on the handling and performance characteristics of a vehicle. In selecting new tyres it is advisable to check the car manufacturer’s specifications or consult a tyre professional for further advice.
